Home Theatres

A cinema room is not a screen and speakers in a spare bedroom. It is an isolated box, tuned so dialogue stays clear, bass stays inside, and the room is silent when nothing is playing.

What makes a theatre feel expensive

Not the speakers. Three things, in this order: how quiet the room is when nothing is playing, how well the room is isolated from the rest of the house, and how quickly sound dies away inside it.

Get those right and modest equipment sounds extraordinary. Get them wrong and the best system in the country sounds like a television in a bathroom.

What we design and build

  • Full structural isolation — floating floor, decoupled walls, isolated ceiling
  • Speaker layout set out for Atmos, including the ceiling positions
  • Bass trapping sized for the room, not bought by the box
  • Absorption and diffusion placed against the reflection points, not spread evenly
  • Fabric-covered acoustic panels, finished to the interior design
  • Tiered seating and stepped ceiling detailing
  • A separate, ventilated equipment room so rack noise never reaches the seats
  • Lighting and air conditioning designed around the acoustics, not cut into them afterwards

The mistake we are usually called in to fix

A beautiful room, full of panels, that still shakes the bedroom upstairs. Panels change how the room sounds inside. They do nothing about what leaves it. Isolation is structural, it has to be designed in, and it is very hard to add later.

Systems we specify
  • Vibration isolation — spring and neoprene mounts
  • Room treatment — absorption, diffusion and bass traps
  • Acoustic fabrics, finished to the interior scheme
  • Acoustic doors with compression and drop seals

Product names belong to their owners. We specify and install these systems; we do not claim to represent the manufacturers.

Common questions

Asked before you ask.

What do STC, IIC, NC and RT60 actually mean?

STC is how well a wall, floor or ceiling blocks airborne sound — speech, TV, traffic. IIC is the same idea for impact: footsteps, a dropped chair. NC describes how quiet a finished room is when nothing is happening in it, which is what makes a cinema feel expensive. RT60 is how long sound takes to die away inside the room.

A wall can have a high STC and the room can still sound wrong. They are different numbers, solved by different work, and a proposal that only mentions one of them is incomplete.

How much does soundproofing cost in India?

It depends on three things: how much reduction you need, how big the surface is, and whether the building is finished or still open. The same 12 dB improvement costs very differently on a bare stud wall and on a finished bedroom with a marble floor.

As a rough order of magnitude, a single residential room treated for insulation typically starts around ₹80,000, and a dedicated home theatre acoustic build usually falls between ₹3–8 lakh. AHU and DG enclosures are priced after measurement, because the target is set by law and not by taste. We give an itemised proposal, not a lump sum.

What is the difference between acoustic treatment and soundproofing?

Treatment changes how a room sounds to the people inside it — echo, flutter, how long sound hangs in the air. Soundproofing stops sound moving between one space and another. Foam panels on a wall do the first and almost nothing for the second, which is the single most common and most expensive misunderstanding we are called in to correct.

Most real projects need both: insulation to contain the noise, treatment to make the room sound right once it is quiet.

Can you work in a building that is already occupied?

Yes, and most of our commercial work is exactly that. Plant rooms, DG yards and party walls are normally dealt with while the building keeps running — sequenced around working hours, with dust control and access agreed in advance. Tell us the constraint at audit stage and it goes into the programme rather than becoming a surprise later.

Bring us the room — a plan, a photograph, or just the address. We will tell you what it can become and what it cannot, before any money is spent.

  1. We call you back within one working day to understand the problem.
  2. We visit and measure — baseline dB levels and frequency profile, at no charge.
  3. You get a written proposal with performance targets, materials and costs, itemised.
