How we work

Measure. Design. Build. Verify.

Most noise complaints are not a materials problem. They are a “nobody measured it” problem.

01
Measure

We visit the site and record what is actually happening — dB levels, the frequencies carrying the noise, and where it is getting through. You cannot design against a guess.

02
Design

Targets first: the STC, IIC, NC or RT60 the room has to reach. Then the build-up that gets there, drawn and specified, with the cost itemised line by line.

03
Build

Installed by people who know why the sealant matters as much as the board. One missed penetration can cost you ten decibels of a thirty-decibel design.

04
Verify

We measure again after handover and give you the report. If it did not hit the target, that is our problem to fix, not yours to discover later.

The numbers, in plain words

Anyone can say “soundproof”.

Nobody can say STC 54 unless somebody measured it. Here is what the numbers on your proposal actually mean — so you can read ours, and read everyone else's.

STC is a single number for how much airborne sound a wall stops. Each step of roughly 10 points halves what you hear.

Why foam panels did not fix it

Foam absorbs sound already inside the room. It has almost no mass, so it does nothing to stop sound passing through the wall. If the complaint is “I can hear next door”, foam is the wrong tool and always was. What stops transmission is mass, a gap, and something soft inside the gap.

Why the gaps matter more than the boards

Sound behaves like water. A wall built to STC 55 with an unsealed socket box, an open head detail or a duct passing straight through will measure nothing like STC 55 on site. Most of the difference between a good acoustic job and a disappointing one is in the junctions, the seals and the penetrations — which is exactly the part that is invisible once it is plastered.

Why we measure before we design

Two rooms that look identical can have completely different problems. One is airborne noise through a wall; the other is structure-borne vibration arriving through the slab from a lift or a pump two floors away. The treatments are different and expensive. Half an hour with a meter tells you which one you are buying.

When we are not the right people to call

If your budget only allows one surface treated out of four, we will tell you it will not meet your expectation before you spend the money. If a room can never be isolated because of how the building is framed, we will say that too. We would rather lose the job than hand over a report that says we missed.

Measured results

Before, after, and the number.

Problem
The owner wanted a real cinema room in a house where people sleep on the floor above. Bass was the risk, not volume.
Baseline
340 sq ft room, ordinary blockwork, hard floor, no isolation from the structure.
What we did
Floating floor on spring mounts, decoupled walls and ceiling, a full 7.1.4 Atmos layout, room treatment and bass trapping, fabric-finished panels.

Problem
Three air handling units were making the floor below unusable for meetings.
Baseline
82 dB(A) measured in the plant room, 800 sq ft, three 45-tonne units.
What we did
Spring isolators under the units, a full six-surface acoustic enclosure in board and stone wool, acoustic access doors, sealed penetrations and duct treatment.

Systems we specify

Named products, named numbers.

A specification that says “acoustic board” is not a specification. Ours names the product, the thickness, the cavity and the test the number comes from — so you can check it, and so anyone pricing against us is pricing the same thing.

Who we work with

Four kinds of noise problem.

Homeowners

A bedroom on a main road, a media room, a floor above a lift machine room. Usually one room that has to behave, inside a house that is already built.

Architects & consultants

Targets set at design stage, drawings and schedules you can issue, and someone on site who reads them. Send us the plan set and we will mark up where the acoustics will fail before it is built.

Facility & MEP teams

AHU rooms, DG rooms, pump rooms, chiller yards. Measurable targets, compliance evidence, and work sequenced around a building that is still running.

Commercial & hospitality

Party walls between rooms, restaurants nobody can talk in, boardrooms where the next meeting hears yours.

The process

Five steps. No surprises.

You will always know what happens next, what it costs, and who is coming to site.

STEP 01
Site audit

We come to you, measure the baseline and tell you what is actually causing it. Free, and you keep the readings whether or not you use us.

STEP 02
Design & proposal

Performance targets, drawings, material schedule and an itemised cost. No lump sums.

STEP 03
Your approval

Walkthrough, physical samples, questions answered. Nothing starts until you sign it off.

STEP 04
Installation

Sequenced and supervised. Penetrations, seals and junctions photographed as they are closed up.

STEP 05
Test & handover

We measure again, hand over the report, and document what was installed.

Simfy Acousta works with the supply chain, site teams and quality processes of the wider Simfy Group — homes, infrastructure, doors, fire safety and interiors. On a live building that matters: the people sealing an acoustic penetration and the people running the fire stopping are not strangers to each other.

Common questions

Asked before you ask.

What is the difference between acoustic treatment and soundproofing?

Treatment changes how a room sounds to the people inside it — echo, flutter, how long sound hangs in the air. Soundproofing stops sound moving between one space and another. Foam panels on a wall do the first and almost nothing for the second, which is the single most common and most expensive misunderstanding we are called in to correct.

Most real projects need both: insulation to contain the noise, treatment to make the room sound right once it is quiet.

How much does soundproofing cost in India?

It depends on three things: how much reduction you need, how big the surface is, and whether the building is finished or still open. The same 12 dB improvement costs very differently on a bare stud wall and on a finished bedroom with a marble floor.

As a rough order of magnitude, a single residential room treated for insulation typically starts around ₹80,000, and a dedicated home theatre acoustic build usually falls between ₹3–8 lakh. AHU and DG enclosures are priced after measurement, because the target is set by law and not by taste. We give an itemised proposal, not a lump sum.

Can you work in a building that is already occupied?

Yes, and most of our commercial work is exactly that. Plant rooms, DG yards and party walls are normally dealt with while the building keeps running — sequenced around working hours, with dust control and access agreed in advance. Tell us the constraint at audit stage and it goes into the programme rather than becoming a surprise later.

Is an acoustic enclosure mandatory for a DG set?

For diesel generator sets, Indian norms require an acoustic enclosure and set a noise limit measured at one metre from the enclosure, with a minimum insertion loss the enclosure has to deliver. Separately, the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules set ambient limits for residential, commercial, industrial and silence zones, day and night.

In practice that means two questions: does the enclosure perform, and is the ambient level at the boundary within limits. We measure both and give you the post-treatment report.

What do STC, IIC, NC and RT60 actually mean?

STC is how well a wall, floor or ceiling blocks airborne sound — speech, TV, traffic. IIC is the same idea for impact: footsteps, a dropped chair. NC describes how quiet a finished room is when nothing is happening in it, which is what makes a cinema feel expensive. RT60 is how long sound takes to die away inside the room.

A wall can have a high STC and the room can still sound wrong. They are different numbers, solved by different work, and a proposal that only mentions one of them is incomplete.

Do you give a report after the work is done?

Yes. We measure again after installation and hand over the readings with the as-built detail. It is the only honest way to sell acoustic work: the claim made at the start should be checkable at the end.

Do you work outside Hyderabad?

Yes. The studio is in Madhapur, Hyderabad, and we take projects across India. For sites outside the city we will tell you honestly at first contact whether the trip makes sense for the size of the job, rather than quoting and then disappearing.
